Running windows programs under Linux

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM describes it as oriented toward
server virtualization, and recommends VirtualBox, Parallels Workstation
(or Parallels Desktop for Mac), or VMware Player/Server for other
applications.
Does your experience differ from that?
