I'm running 12.04 and software center showed it as 4.3, but it did not
install 4.3 properly until I uninstalled skype-bin with software
center. Then software center installed 4.3, and 4.3 came up OK.

I did not have to do what Karl is trying to do.

When I had the 'problem' it did not work and said it was 4.2 even
though I 'installed' 4.3. Now it is OK, says it is 4.3, and works
well.

Is software center doing something Karl is not doing?
