Optimizing the setup of Toshiba external HD 500gb USBV63600-A with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Hello.
I have done the backup (using Backup) to this HD but also want to _more 
readily_ access copies of the files in the Ubuntu Home Folder directories.
Can you give me a command  that will automatically copy these files to 
the Toshiba HD and then allow me to copy them back to my desktop.
The HD is at /media/TOSHIBA EXT
