Thanks for the reply.
As I said above, that is what I tried to do. I originally had Skype
4.2. Software center *said* it installed 4.3 successfully. When I then
run Skype, it is still 4.2, which does not work any more. Software
center did NOT update correctly.
Since something is not working correctly, I'd like to make a backup to
make sure info is not lost permanently.
The usual, and recommended procedure, is not working for me. I'm
trying to understand why, and what I need to do to get it to actually
update.
