With all due respect for Microsoft (very little here) it is just as
criminal in my mind that they destroy a legally purchased install for any
detected mis-match in the hardware since the original install was done.

Hard drives, net cards, and even motherboards die. To be forced to buy
yet another copy just to have one machine running it, is the sort of stuff
usually found, fresh and steaming, on the ground behind the male of the
bovine specie.

We've been fighting with Microsoft over failed installs, and even a
working install failing because their NT-3.51 & NT-4.0 housekeeping
deleted a required file, IMO right on schedule because they felt they
needed another rental fee. It has happened on my watch more times than
coincidence can explain.

We have a right to use what we have paid for. Not a right to run multiple
copies of proprietary one copy per fee paid per install stuff, but a right
to run the copy we bought, on the machine OF OUR CHOICE.

Since this isn't a windows support list, you are out of line chastising
someone for doing the only thing that might salvage the situation.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
