I don't know whether gnome-tweak-tool allows this, it might be worth a
look. If you want to have a go then
sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool
Alternatively comment #30 of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/863834
tells how to run a script when the lid closes so possibly you could
hook into that.
