USB WiFi adaapter

I have a Toshiba notebook running 12.04 that the wifi is unusable. 
Sometimes it will not connect at all or take multiple tries over a 10 or 
15 minute time span to connect.  Wired works ok and booting briefly to 
Win 8 to test wireless works ok.  Googling and asking here a couple of 
months ago did not produce a solution.

I happened to see a Netgear N900 WiFi Dual Band USB adapter Model: 
WNDA4100 in the bargain bin at Walmart the other day and wonder if it 
would work with 12.04.  The package of course says different versions of 
Windows and talks of an installation CD.  I know from past experience 
that despite the instructions many things will still work on Linux.  So 
I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with this or a similar 
device?
