I am using a Trendnet TE-100-P21 print server directly on the LAN with a 
Brother HL-5040.  It works well with CUPS in a LINUX environment.  Does 
not require a online host to print.  Also works with laptops with WIFI 
connection.

I haven't tried it with Windows but Windows instructions are part of the 
Trendnet instructions.
