ubuntu-gnome - I was referring to the new *buntu distro. Set up as a
gnome distro for the enthusiasts. I thought Mate was just a new
gnome... the renaming of apps e.g. gedit now Puma (I think) makes for
confusion.

"we live with XFCE" I don't think that's fair. It's simple yes but
some features are really good - Bulk Rename in Thunar for example is
much better than Krename. All about choice. Xubuntu is by far the best
xfce distro I have come across.
