That's what happens when you stick to an older version of Ubuntu.

1:3.5.7-0ubuntu4 is the latest version in 12.04, which must be what
you're running.

13.04 has 1:4.0.2-0ubuntu1 and 13.10 currently has 4.1.2~rc3-0ubuntu1.

Try to do some research before ranting stupidly!
