on returning to ubuntu 12.04 from windows the display mangnification goes larger

Oh no, Win drivers won't do much for Linux, if anything. Just stick the
install CD in, with your bios set to boot the cdrom first, HD second,
and it should come up to boot. From there select Live Session to test if
your machine is ready to go. If not, 13.10 might be better, so just wait
a week or so for it's release. Ric
