That was my thinking, about the crossover.  Thanks for the scp 
suggestion, I see:


"scp /home/ubuntu/myfile C:\users\Anshul\Desktop"

This is in relation to backing up data from a pc running XP onto probably 
another xp computer.  (Cannot seem to register for the forums at http://
www.sysresccd.org/ and e-mails go unanswered there, hence the question 
here -- should've mentioned that.)

Install something like:

http://winscp.net/eng/index.php

onto the working pc, running xp, and then boot the borked machine with 
the rescue CD and use scp?  Sound straight forward.
