recovering deleted files

Oh so very true... :-( . One wrong press of a key and - poof! the data 
is gone.

The only way out now would be to take it a professional data recovery 
service (which will charge you an arm and a leg from what I hear) to dig 
under the layer(s) of zeros and ones to find the files required.
