I too have been getting this from time to time. I also have complete 
"freezes" where only the mouse responds on the touchpad on my laptop. I 
have the latest updates and everything seemed to work just fine on this 
machine when it was 12.04. Wondering if it's worth trying to fix or if i 
should just "downgrade' back to 12.04 until the next LTS. It CAn be 
quite annoying to be sending an email in Thunderbird only to have the 
entire system hang.!
