Laser printer use question

I agree, in the past they made long lasting machines. My printer is a 
LJ4 from 1993 which was used in an office until 2001. It has printed 
about 100k pages and is still working fine. That's 20+ years  It was 
replaced in that office by a LJ5000 which died last year, so that's 11 
years. OTOH those machines were meant for office use, they were rated at 
20k pages per month and they were not affordable for home users.

I'm not sure if we can compare those machines for office use with todays 
throwaway consumer products which are built as cheap as possible. Today 
a new toner cartridge is more expensive than a new printer, there must 
be something wrong.
