Synaptic Package Manager Not Downloading

I went through a similar mess-up, until I finally bit the bullet, backed 
up and installed again. That fixed it. Previous, I googled my butt off, 
whined in this forum, rm -rf'd partial files and edited everything 
editable. Nothing did the trick. Something, I suspect, in the database, 
went bonkers and joined the formerly living (as in the Dead Parrot 
routine) and it was easier, in the long run, to re-install. Another 
reason to have current backups. Sorry. But I DO feel your pain. Ric
