Screen Saver Leaves Panels Visible Why?

Colin,

I enabled the xscreensaver by:

 From Dash-->Apps-->Screensaver

A dialog box appeared with the message Warning about xscreensaver not running 
and did I want to start it now? My reply was Yes.

I chose Mode: Only One Screen Saver and picked Hypertorus

Blank after 10 min (default)
Cycle after 10 min (default)

Unchecked Lock Screen

That is all.
