spamassassin doesn't seem to be working anymore

I have a home server that has been working brilliantly for a few years. And
as the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I just don't have
the time (or patience) to dick around with re-installing the latest Ubuntu
just to get it to parity with what I already have working basically.
Anyways, I have noticed over the past year let's say that I get a lot more
spam in my inbox than I did when this first came out. Did something change
with spamassassin and it's not updating the rules or whatever for this
version of Ubuntu anymore? I would think that the rules should be
'universal' no?

-n --color=auto spam
If I run "sa-update" it doesn't give any error (or message for that matter)
# /usr/bin/spamassassin --lint
Returns to the next prompt without error or message too.
I do have this crontab and it does run without error:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 904 2008-11-08 02:13 /etc/cron.daily/spamassassin
