IF you think thats a real deal Ric, wait till you have to deal with
lexmark. Never, ever, mention linux when talking to them, the conversation
is over, the bastards will say we don't support linux and hang up. And
they own a lot of brands besides lexmark. Memorex and Plustek comne to
mind, and they've burned me bad on both. And they'll have lawyers on site
in 3 days if you break the fins off a cheaper toner cart so you can use the
otherwise identical toner but 1/3rd the cost toner tank in the high priced
model.

I needed a el cheapo laser, because I couldn't get ribbons for the DW
printer I had been using on my color computer for 20 years anymore, and
bought a Brother HL2140 3 or 4 years ago. Its $110 for the current
version, you can dl cups drivers for it on linux from Brothers own web
page, and on a decent machine with a usb-2.0 or better interface, can do 22
ppm non-stop till the 250 sheet tray is empty, reload it, tap the blinking
blue button and it starts right back up without dropping a single
character.

I use it on the coco by sending the output I want printed to this machine
via a channel in a program that runs on this machine called drivewire,
which hands it off to cups for text to raster rendering and sends it back
down the same usb cable to the same hub the coco is plugged into and which
that printer is plugged into, and because the cable is a tad busy, get my
assembly listings for coco code back at about 19-20 ppm. Thats around 30
times faster than any printer I ever drove straight from the coco.

In that 3 or 4 years, its now on about the 20th ream of paper, and just
started on the 3rd toner cart & runs as quietly today as it did when new.
One paper problem, Walmart's recycled crap. Its never wrinkled a sheet of
staples stuff in the orange package. Printers should Just Work(TM) and
this one does.

And I don't feel like I'm dealing with the devil when I use it.

Cheers, Gene
