Not able to view Images using EOG/Gthumb

Dear List,

Since last 10 to 15 days, I'm not able to view my captured images in Eye 
of Gnome a default image viewer for Ubuntu 12.04 64bit. whenever I try 
to open a image it displays for fraction of a second and image viewer 
gets closed automatically. Same thing happens with Gthumb as well

  What I've tried is

  * Reinstalled EOG ( no effect it crashes as before )
  * Removed EOG and installed it again ( no luck )
  * Installed Gthumb ( same thing happens, it closes it self automatically)


when I try to launch eog or Gthumb from command line I'm getting 
following error on the screen after it closes

eog DSCN3282.JPG   or  gthumb DSCN3282.JPG

any idea...?? how to resolve the issue ???
