Imap trash settings

Hi all,

This is my first question here and I'm struggling to google anything up at all on my subject.

I'm running ubuntu 10.04 lts server with dovecot and postfix running some emails for a single domain. I'm accessing my email via imap and therefore the trash box will sync across various devices in the same way as other folders do ie inbox. Is there a setting for how long that trash mail sits there in trash or does it only disappear when you empty the trash from a program like tb or a mail client on phone/tablet?
