Volume Control gone missing

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

Suddenly my volume control has disappeared.

The Movie player volume control appears, but only when a file is opened.
Have never noticed but that's probably standard behavior.

The list that appears in the "Add to Panel" app doesn't show anything to 
do with volume.

The default panel objects are:
	Window selector
	Notification Area
	Menu Bar
	Window List
so, it would appear that perhaps the volume control is added by choice?
I don't recall adding it, the control has always been there until now.

The last time it 'might' have been used was about 24-36 hours ago when I 
viewed some YouTube videos, but I don't recall altering the volume.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.
