I had a similar problem. I have Samba and CUPS installed.
When I first set up my system printing worked without problems. At some point
I could not print and I could not figure out how to release the file from the
print queue. I did find a message for the queued file that stated a filter
failed, I do not have any filters defined, so I do not understand what was
happening.
Being somewhat of a newbe on Ubuntu my solution my not have been the most
effective solution. What I did to fix the problem was delete the printer
objects and recreate them on three computers to get printing working again.
