If I understand your purpose correctly, it's what I do here.  I have two wired-only devices (xbox and HTPC) which need access to the internet without running ridiculously long cables.  I connect both of them into a generic DD-WRT firmware'd router which joins the wireless network as a client bridge (you can also use "client" and keep the subnets separate).
I have connected one wired device to a wireless AP
but I have never connected a Network via wireless AP
