updating from terminal

*Hi hope I'm on the correct list.*
*I just installed a dual boot with windows.When it starts looks like
terminal opens,tells me there are updates.*
*Line has my computer name,followed by what looks like a dollar sign.*
*I am presuming I need a command to get the updates.Could someone tell me
what is the command please.*
*Fairly new to Ubuntu.*
