Unix copy method not working for gnome terminal !CORRECTION!

problem explanation:  (CORRECTED!)

open a gnome terminal, do `cat filename.txt`, highlight-copy
the contetnt with pressing the link mouse button, open a 2nd terminal,
middle-click on it to paste the content. It works!!!

Go back to the first terminal, `vi filename.txt`, highlight-copy
the contetnt, go to the 2nd terminal, middle-click on it to paste
the content. It DOES NOT work!!!

Can anybody reproduce that?
