problem printing -HP-Deskjet-3070a

I have an HP Deskjet 3070 a (all in one) printer.  When I print after
the printer has been idle it shows 'failed' in GIMP.  Libre office
shows nothing.  In the printer queue is shows 'held'  When I print
from the HP Device Manager it prints fine (but it has fewer control
options so I can not use it.  I installed and reinstalled from the
latest hplip download.  I am connected wirelessly through the router.
