Monitoring for disk issues

I guess it's possible that smart monitoring programs are unreliable, but the
smart data recorded by the drive is completely reliable. And it's the
fastest way to see if a drive has endured a drop or physical shock,
temperatures changes, communication problems, and failing sectors. 

 

Nothing knows better about what's going on than the drive itself.
Unfortunately, smart can't deal with some mechanical failures - nothing can.


 

Hmm, there is one way to tell mechanical problems: listen to it - if its
making loud noises, replace it.
