upgrading to 12.04.1 stalled

You pressed the wrong key.

The keystrokes to copy/cut/paste in the Terminal need Shift held down
as well: Ctrl-Shift-C etc.

You need to use Tab and Space to select a button in the terminal; the
mouse will not work.
