Wifi problems: is there a solution ?

Have you found other posts about problems when running on battery?
What do you mean by unusable when running with battery?  Does it work
at all?  Does it see the available networks but fail to connect, or
what?
Assuming that it works fine when under mains power, then unless others
are having similar problems I would have thought this was a hardware
problem of some sort.
