 From memory, I think that you are allowed 4 attempts to change the 
country code in a player after which you cannot pass GO and cannot 
collect $200.

What does the manufacturer's site say about resetting the drive to 
factory specs?

I know that this may sound trite, but a DVDRW nowadays costs about the 
same as a couple of packs of cigarettes.
