$ sudo apt-get update

if that goes well, then:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install wget

The package is there:
<http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/w/wget/>

BTW: can someone with gmail kindly instruct Harsha on how to post on
this list so the his/her emails are properly threaded. Probably wouldn't
be a bad idea to do it as a separate subject (FYI/FAQ like) so that we
don't don't have to teach each new gmail list poster.
Thanks
