xsane can't see my scanner unless I'm root

I have an even better idea: open a bug report on Launchpad, write your
observations and your workaround, and attach your file there. That way it
will get fixed in a next release of Ubuntu so EVERYONE can benefit.

One would say that it's even your moral obligation to file a bug report.
Ubuntu has given you so much, isn't it time to give something back? ;-)
