In Ubuntu 11.10, there are several files related to network configuration:
/etc/hosts mappings for host name to ip address
/etc/resolv.conf dns configuration
/etc/network/interfaces network information setting
/etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf network manager configuration
/etc/ppp/peers/provider ppp setting
Correct me if I'm wrong. :-)
