ubuntu hangs while shutting down

Are you sure it is a graphics driver problem? Have you tried to use
Ubuntu with the default Nouveau driver? The Nouveau driver is almost
the same in Ubuntu and Fedora. It is not Ubuntu's fault that the newer
closed-source NVIDIA driver does not work with your machine.
