init 1 hangs

It looks like the screen displays the boot splash screen. It should be 
possible to switch back to your wanted VT with Ctrl-Alt-F1..F6.

BTW: IIRC you're coming from Fedora - then forget most of what you know 
about runlevels. The default runlevel is 2 for ubuntu.
