VPN problem with 12.04

The gateway is your Internet connection. You don't want to set a gateway on
a vpn, unless you have a reason to use the slowest possible route to the
web? You would be surfing the web through the vpn connection, as well as any
other packets meant for the internet, in other words.

However, this isn't why you cant connect.  What type of vpn service is
running at the office? Are you using the assigned ports?

What IP address range is your home lan, and what ip address range is used at
work?
