VPN problem with 12.04

I would like to set up a VPN connection to my work so I can use my
Ubuntu desktop at home to get some work done. I am no rookie to setting
up VPN connections, but this one is eluding me. I seem to have it all
set up properly, but all traffic I try to send to work is trying to go
to the internet. At least that is what tracepath is trying to tell me.
What I've done.
Network configuration set up a VPN connection. Under the IPv4 tab I
named it. Set to Automatic(VPN) I pressed the routes button and told it
only to use the connection for services on that particular network.
Under the VPN tab I set the gateway to the other end's DNS name and set
my userid and Domain. I made it available to all users. Under the
advanced button MSCHAP and MS-CHAP2 are checked. And under security and
compression all are checked except Allow stateful encryption.
Under Echo the send ppp echo packets is unchecked.
Any ideas why I can't get this working?
It connects, I just don't get anything traveling down the tunnel. I was
assuming it would get the right gateway address from the VPN server on
the other side.
Any ideas gratefully appreciated.
Chris
