Sorry, I can only assume the difference is in our version of Xfce.  
However, in another e-mail, you mentioned that you get a message that 
gnome screensaver is running, so try to configure or disable it.

 From a terminal, run gnome-control-center.  In the Screen Saver 
options, remove the Lock Screen check, (and optionally, remove the check 
to activate screen saver.

I'm not certain if the gnome screensaver should be getting called in a 
xfce session, but that will at least tame it.
