Simple. It just didn't work for me.  I think that I may have mentioned 
this already many months ago and was it suggested that I install the 
version from videolan.org.

Perhaps we have different needs. I use it 99% of the time to watch 
digital television and 1% to watch DVDs.

The other "perhaps" is that the repos finally caught up with the latest 
and now have same version as videolan.org.

Who knows? The world works in a mysterious way :-) .
