Nvidia driver problem

Some time back he posted his xorg.conf file. It noted VESA as the 
driver. Ergo, he has one. Somewhere.

You know what? If the OP would type sudo lshw and uparrow to read the 
display section, then we'd KNOW what the system thinks he has.
Mine reads:
  *-display
                 description: VGA compatible controller
                 product: G96 [GeForce 9400 GT]
                 vendor: nVidia Corporation
                 physical id: 0
                 bus info: pci at 0000:01:00.0
                 version: a1
                 width: 64 bits
                 clock: 33MHz

Prolly should have suggested this before... then we'd KNOW what the bios 
is letting the OS play with. So, if the OP would do this, and report his 
result, that will narrow down the problem.
