No, I have removed the screensaver package and the x version too, and
Power Manager too,
the screen has a definite texture like lots of thin lines
criss-crossing, a bit like the x screen one sees when changing
resolution to see if the new resolution works ok.
However that has now gone and the turning off is working once again.
I think what happened in trying many things yesterday I got mixed up.
I'll confirm what I did do and post here so its clear what actually
disables this most annoying 'feature'.
but as the changes seem non-permanent between boots, this is only a
partial fix.
