No Natty here, but that shouldn't change the synaptic settings.
Remember, I dumped Natty and 'regressed' to Lucid which continues to
amaze me at how fast it is compared to both Maverick and Natty.
But on to your problem changing servers.  Do you not see the item I
mentioned?  I can send a screenshot of that if you so wish.  I have
seen a couple of distros which had that option unavailable.  Bodhi
comes to mind.  I can't speak to what Mint (especially
half-dismantled  ;-]) might or might not offer.
