You still have not been entirely clear as to what is happening.
What colour is the background before you highlight it?
What colour is the text before you highlight it?
Am I right in thinking that they both turn blue when you select it so
that the text is not visilble?

The text, background and selected colours for the system are
determined by the theme set in System > Appearance.  Try selecting a
different theme there.  For a particular theme it is possible to
change the colours by clicking Customise on the Theme tab.  If it is
only Firefox that has the problem then have a look in Edit >
Preferences > Content > Colours.  Perhaps you have set the text colour
to the same as the highlight colour for the system.
