Yes.
I think you should upgrade to GRUB for 2 reasons:
1. GRUB 1 has been abandoned.
2. GRUB 2 is more flexible, and by editing /etc/default/grub makes
things easy to configure it (and update-grub will be picking your
latest kernel automatically).
