Hi
My first post on here, please let me know if I should post this somewhere
else:
I upgraded to 11.10 on Friday, and had a few issues, most of them resolved.
I use an oldish Dell Inspiron 6400, with 2GB of RAM, it has a Centrino Duo
Intel processor, but only 32-bit.
I noticed that when using the "Cube" effect - ( I've got 4 desktops
configured) , the screen "flickers" or redraws itself quite dramatically,
and is very distracting....
You also loose the ability to use the keyboard straight away on the new (
focused ) window ( that is on the desktop you just navigated to ) . Your
typing happens in the last window you had in focus on the previous desktop.
You can bring the keyboard focus back by using Alt-Tab, but that is very
annoying, and is something I never had to do on 11.04.
I could not use Full Unity on 11.04 ( hardware probably too old ) , but used
the 2D Unity on 11.04 instead.
I NOW CAN use the full Unity, which is great, but I have these problems that
I can't seem to sort by trying different combinations of settings of
CompizConfig.
I was just wondering if someone has seen this, and if I have config
parameters that are in conflict that is causing this.
Am I better off to use the 2D version of Unity?
Also, If someone has a "minimum CompizCOnfiguration" somewhere, I would love
to have a look. My requirements would be:
1. Move and resize windows.
2. Have the menu of each app appearing in the top bar ( brilliant, save so
much space )
3. Use Alt-Tab to navigate between apps in the SAME desktop
4. Use Ctrl-Alt and arrows to navigate between different desktops.
5. Have the focus automatically restored to the front/top window on the new
desktop.
6. I log onto many different servers, so I use Byobu Terminal for that.
7. For my wishlist, I would like to have opaque/see-through windows, so I
can type a document ( or use vim ) with the window underneath showing the
text.
I know there are a lot of people against Unity, I think it is fab, and
definitely the way to go!
I also notice that my Skype ( still beta ) is much more stable on Oneiric,
and I am glad to see Thunderbird as default mail client. I also love
Chromium Browser, so much
quicker than Firefox.
I use my desktop at work, and I never have to use any MS products, my life
in IT is SO MUCH BETTER!!!!
Any suggestions or alternatives are welcome.
Kind Regards
Gerrit le Roux
