Firefox not closing due to plugin-container and flash

After updates to 10.04 LTS yesterday, (10 Oct 2011,) firefox will not
close, leaving running processes; from ps eax:
/usr/lib/firefox-3.6.23/firefox-bin ...
/usr/lib/firefox-3.6.23/plugin-container /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so ...
which will hang there, forever, (and block further usage of firefox.)
killall(1) either firefox-bin or plugin-container, of course, will
kill both processes, but its kind of annoying to script a kill
wrapper, or call up a terminal, just to get a browser to stop.
Its probably not that good an idea to leave a program as bug intensive
as flash running eternally, either.
