After a little installation orgy to get the amd catalyst driver working
 (see: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Oneiric_Installation_Guide,
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1857059)

I've a similar problem as before:

Starting the operating system with the default menu entry (in text mode,
no splash) the os shuts off the screen after displaying the start sequence.
No VT is working and the monitor is going to idle after 30 seconds of
input switching between VGA and DVI.
Surprisingly after booting to the recovery console and resuming Unity is
starting up as expected.

The only visible difference is the change to text (24x80) mode after
booting the recovery console, the default boot uses the same high
resolution text mode as the grub menu.

Strange is also the report in the Unity system settings:
System information reports VESA:BARTS as active graphics
additional drivers reports ATI/AMD fglrx prorietary as installed/active
and gives the choice to update fglrx
fglrxinfo reports AMD Radeon HD 6700 as renderer and 4.1.11079
Compatibility profile context as version

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Reinhard
