I'll grant you that Seamonkey isn't well updated (it's in universe, so
the security team doesn't promise anything), but there've been eight
updates to Firefox in 10.04 in the last six months, taking it from
3.6.16 to 3.6.24. (Data source:

I prefer mutt myself, but horses for courses. offlineimap is worth
considering as well (so I don't actually use mutt's IMAP support
directly), especially if you ever need to get at your e-mail while on
the road. It does require some work on its configuration file, but I
assume that's not so much of a problem if you're already using a text
client.
