It's not that windows has poor hardware support.  (although, out of the 
box, it is, actually poor, but since that rarely impacts user 
experience, it's not worth debating).

However, regardless how good Windows support for any and all devices 
might be (since they are all made to work with Windows, duhhh), the 
simple fact is, Windows is very very *very* ungraceful about having 
entire chipsets swapped out from underneath it.  By comparison, Linux 
cloning vs Widnows cloning does demonstrate just how bad things really 
are in the Windows model.
